From Game Night to Event Night: What We’ve
Learned Bringing Tabletop Elixirs to the Table
When we first imagined Tabletop Elixirs, we weren’t thinking about extension
cords, water tanks, ice runs, or weather forecasts. We were thinking about
game night.
About that moment when friends gather around a table, open something
new, and settle in for an experience.
What we didn’t realize was how many lessons from board games would
apply directly to running a concessions trailer at live events.
Turns out… a lot.
Lesson #1: Setup Matters More Than You Think
In board games, the setup phase can make or break the experience. If components aren’t organized, rules aren’t clear, or the table is cluttered, things get chaotic fast.
Events are no different.
We learned quickly:
Pre-batching where possible saves time.
A clean, visible menu reduces decision fatigue.
Clear flow at the window keeps lines moving.
Backup ice is not optional.
Just like in gaming, preparation is half the battle.
Lesson #2: Too Many Choices Slows the Game
Remember when we admitted we created over 100 possible drink combinations?
That was our “overly complicated rulebook” phase.
We learned that people don’t want to solve a strategy puzzle when they’re standing in line at a busy event. They want confidence. Simplicity. Something that sounds amazing without overthinking it.
So we streamlined.
Curated menus > endless menus.
It made the experience better for everyone.
Lesson #3: Events Are About Energy
Board games thrive on energy at the table. Laughter. Engagement. Friendly banter.
Events are the same way.
We’ve found that:
A smile travels down the line.
Explaining a drink name sparks curiosity.
Talking about meeples turns strangers into friends.
If someone doesn’t know what a meeple is? That’s not confusion. That’s opportunity.
We love introducing people to Euro board games. We love hearing what they play. We love recommending a gateway game for someone who’s curious.
The drinks get people to the window.
The conversations make them remember us.
Lesson #4: Expect the Unexpected
Outdoor events teach humility.
Weather shifts.
Crowds surge.
Supplies run low faster than predicted.
Like any good strategy game, you have to adapt.
We now:
Plan for peak rushes, not average flow.
Bring more backup supplies than we think we need.
Keep the menu flexible enough to pivot.
Flexibility wins games. It wins events too.
Lesson #5: Community Is the Whole Point
This business wasn’t built just to sell flavored lemonades and dirty sodas.
It was built because we love:
Games
Gathering
Creativity
Shared experiences
There’s something special about watching a family try a new drink together, or hearing someone say, “Wait… I’ve played that game!”
We’ve learned that when you lead with authenticity, people feel it.
And honestly? That’s the best lesson of all.
Still Learning. Still Playing.
Every event teaches us something new.
Better layout ideas.
Faster workflows.
New flavor combinations.
New people.
New stories.
Tabletop Elixirs is still evolving — just like a great game that keeps getting expansions.
And we wouldn’t trade this journey for anything.
Well… maybe slightly fewer late-night syrup experiments.

Two meeples. One vision.
Built together. Poured together.
